I was in a physically and mentally abusive relationship for four years. I broke with him and left our apartment almost three years ago and back with my family. I've been seeing a psychologist to talk about my bad experience but it did not help. I am still so angry about what happened. I know this is not my fault, but I am angry with myself and I'm terrified of him. If I do happen to run into him, I freeze and get sick. I have not had a healthy relationship since this happened and I'm 27 years old and want to spend my life with. I have no history of abuse in my past and a wonderful family and system supportive friend. Any advice is appreciated … I just want to move forward.
Pray. Sounds primitive, but I know just tell the universe (or God, Goddess Kali, Buddha or what have you) "I can not deal with this, just take away." Say it with much emphasis. OR you can watch and take as a learning experience. Who knows how many people in life that you might encounter that are still in your situation you can help. I understand you are angry. Maybe with you, but let it go. Understand yes it was incoherent, but the person you are then different from that you are now. When you run into him be brave. Say in your mind "He (or you, the way) have no pwer over me." It is a coward. He is weak. Do not be afraid of him, Pitty him. Violence is a form of control, it can not control something that has happened (in past) so there is nothing more than anger, the wounded boy, who can not control … not even himself.
